Alce resided during the American Rev. at Black Jack, 96th District, South Carolina, now Newberry, and acted in the capacity of patriot by rendering material aid to the Army. She furnished provisions and forage fro militia use. Her husband Elijah Teague is listed in the Grand Jury List 1776-1778 in the 96th District, S. Carolina on the Little River between the Broad and Saluda Rivers. The account of his murder by Tories is found in "Quakers in S. Carolina Backcountry, Part II-Bush River" by Williard C Heiss, 1969.
Also listed in "Stub Entries to Indents issued in payment of Claims against South Carolina growing out of the Revolution, Books 157 #318 Book s is Mrs Alee Teague. After the murder of her husband, she continued to supply the militia from her farm. ( In this record the C was miscopied as an E.) The next entry in the book is to her son Samuel Teague.

He moved with his parents to old 96th District SC sometime between 1760 and 1767. Teague Family Magazine Vol 3 & 4 have Joshua Teague family records .
Joshua Teague and his brother Elijah Teague have detailed information about them in Alabama Records, V 156, pp. 78-81. Joshua furnished supplies for the American Revolution. Claim was made for this with the State of South Carolina, claim on file SC Historical Comm, Columbia SC.
Mrs Lena Mitchell, Membership # 110041, Cocoa, FL has established this record for DAR membership. His will was made 12 Mar 1816, Newberry Co. SC. There is a copy of the succession in Joshua Teague file.

My original information on this family group came from Hurren Smith. (see file of Edward Teague) HS has Samuel's place of death as NBY SC. No source given. He does say that Samuel funished provisions during Rev. War, info from SC Archives, Columbia SC, and sites Teague Family Mag., No 1 Pg 208-9. My second source is for the children's names, dates and spouse and comes from ONDC Quarterly Vol 3 #4 p 45, submitted by Vivian T
McDougald. She sites her source as Quakers in South Carolina, p. 111. She gives Samuel's place of death as Union Co, OH.

James Smith (Jr) was born on May 23, 1786 at Bedford, VA; christened at

James Smith married Sarah Teague on January 14, 1807 at Newberry, SC. Sarah, dau. of Joshua Teague and Hannah (Teague), born Dec. 1790 at Newberry, SC; christened at Newberry, SC; died on November 11, 1857 at Pontotoc, MS; buried at Cherry Creek Cem, Pontotoc, MS.
This family migrated to Blount Co. AL about 1816 and lived there for approximately 45+ years, Sarah died 1857 and some family members moved to Pontotoc Co. MS. They had eleven children.

Kaufman, Texas Jan. 16-- Mrs. M. V. Smith of Kaufman has celebrated her nintieth birthday. Mrs Smith was born in Anderson County. Her father was a close friend of Gen. Sam Houston. Houston visited in her home on many occasions. Mrs. Smith remembers Houston. Mrs. Smith's husband was a Baptist Minister of prominence. For many years he was pastor of the church in Belton and he was also connected with Baylor College. She is the mother of eleven children, five of whom are living. Two daughters live in Kaufman, Mrs F. A. Carlisle and Miss Elsie Smith.

Very little is known about Charles. He and Kathryn divorced when Levi was around 8 years old. Divorce was quite a scandall at that time, so this was never discussed. I do know that he worked as a bookkeeper. He was a very muscular, large man. One of his cousins visited us right after we(Bruce and Jan Craven) married and he said that Charles was very handsome, but he loved to fist fight.
